Kansas City MO — ICE Mega Center (BLOCKED by community pressure)

Jackson, MO FIPS 29095
7,500 beds planned
Bed capacity
Operator: ICE (federal) — never operational

Platform Ventures owned an $80M warehouse in south Kansas City planned as a 7,500-bed ICE mega center. The deal was killed by community pressure — student walkouts, mass protests, a general strike, and the city council blocking permits within hours of ICE touring the facility. Port KC (which had given the developer a 20-year tax exemption) severed all ties. Platform Ventures withdrew February 12, 2026.

Follow-on (Jan-June 2026): After the KC site died, Rep. Mark Alford (R-MO-04) pushed Cass County (Harrisonville / I-49 corridor) as an alternative ICE site. Belton declined, residents and Reps. Cleaver/Davids opposed, and no site has been secured as of June 2026. The 7,500-bed concept has not resurfaced at a new location.
